A New Year

2011 has finally arrived. But my running hasn't. I decided to rejoin the Hit Center and take the Boot camp. Haven't set any times yet but I know I will. Time to get it going again. Don't expect to be ready for this years River Run but at least it's a start.

Update 2010

It's been 2 years gone by since I ran that River Run. It was one of the toughest runs of my life. The wind was gusting about 30 mph that day and it was everything to keep from getting blown off the bridges. I cramped bad at 8 1/2 miles. It was also pretty cold. And now I've put down the running interests at this point, especially since I suffered another bad case of plantar fasciitis a few months ago only running my 2 mile training route. I'm recovered from that but have been mainly sticking to the Bike these days. Will there be another River Run in me? Perhaps...

Mission Accomplished

The River run, 9.3 miles, finally accomplished. It was the windiest day I've seen in Jacksonville in a long time. We runners almost got blown off the bridge. The water cups were flying everywhere. The white cap waves were breaking over the banks of the St Jonhs. But we ran and ran on. The people were out cheering. Bands were playing here and there. We had a great time! I didn't run my best run but who cares. Just doing it was good enough. Can't wait till next year!

Running the Bridges

Went out and ran two loops of the downtown bridges. Got the Heart rate to 180 but thats all. One or two more training runs and then we'll reach the goal. Its been a good experience. Rachael looks ready too! It won't be easy but I'm getting that marathon feeling again. Who knows?

10 Miles on the Beach

I said I was going to do and I did. Ran about 10 miles on the beach. Less pounding on the joints. Nice foot prints! Time: 1 hour 40 minutes. Could have gone longer but we're only getting ready for 9 miles. Got a foot blister again. Need to visit the 1st place sports store and get some decent socks. Run On! 13 days to go.

Count down

The River Run is officially March 8th. We have 16 days left to get be ready. Looks like it will be Rachael and I going for it. Did another 5 miles in 54:09 tonight. Not a very fast pace I know. But these 5 miles runs are now getting routine. I may buy a new pair of shoes, mine are getting a little worn. One of these days I'm going to double the run to 10 miles, maybe this weekend, and see what happens. The only x factor left will be the bridges but I doubt they will be that bad. I'm about ready.

7 Miles and Climbing

Michael and I did 7 miles. Cardio was ok, My foot got a blister. Met a runner out there and he suggested after work going down town for a practice run over the bridges. Think I'll try that tomorrow.

Beach Run

Beach run was Great! Felt good to be out on some new terrain. Think I'll try to run out there more often. Need to crank up to running 2 x a week at least to get ready for the River run. I'm thinking Wednesdays and Saturdays. That should do it. We can do it!

Running Wet!

Today was a challenge. Running in the rain and cold. Did another 5 miles but thats all I could get out of this bod. Got to keep it going, river run is March 8th. Got to be increasing the distance. Next goal is a 6 mile run.

Yoga and running

Yoga and Running. Now there's a combination I never put together. But today I went out and did that 5 mile run without stopping. Time 54:49. I know the Yoga we just started doing this week must have helped. I kept focusing on the breathing. Several times towards the end I hit a new gear but was able to breath though it. I can't wait for the next class.
